Home Based Care

It has become tradition over the past few years for the volunteers to host a Christmas Party for the children in our Home Based Care programme in Soweto. Last year was no exception.

On the 2nd December 2008, 600 children along with 200 mothers and grannies arrived for the much anticipated event. We hired a school to host the party. It was so touching to see the faces of the children, their excitement was palpable. For many of the children, this party would be the only joy that they would experience throughout the festive season.

The day was fun filled. We had jumping castles, clowns and soccer games. We even managed to arrange a visit from Y-FM which proved to be a highlight for the older children in the programme. Father Christmas arrived on a Fire Engine much to the delight of the children.

Every child received a gift, and every mother and granny received a food parcel that would see tem through the Christmas period. The volunteers and sponsors were amazing. Nedbank kindly donated the money for the food parcels and individuals and corporates bought gifts for the children. The volunteers of Cotlands pulled off a mammoth event in a very short space of time.

And we are doing it again. The party is arranged for the 5th December 2009. Please see our attached wish list and let us know if you are able to help. You really do have the power to bring joy to a child.

Christmas Fundraiser 2009

The Cotlands Soweto Home Based Care Program supports over 200 mothers and grandmothers who are care givers for HIV positive children. The families live in poverty and everyday is a fight against illness and hunger - these children don’t know that their childhoods are meant to be worry free and happy.

In December, Cotlands will be hosting a Christmas party for 600 of these children. We would like to spoil them for this one day of the year and let them know that they are cherished. We can’t do this without your help!

In order for us to raise the funds to give these special children a real Christmas, Cotlands has teamed up with Barnyard Theatres. On Friday the 23rd of October Cotlands volunteers will host a fundraising evening at the Barnyard Broadacres, with great raffle prizes and Elvis on the stage. The evening promises to be one to remember, not to mention the great cause behind it all as 100% of the proceeds will go towards giving these children a real Christmas.

About the Show – Elvis

Elvis was one of the greatest singers and entertainers the world has ever known, he shook up the music industry for three decades before passing away in 1977 at the young age of 42.

This awesome tribute show is a non-stop nostalgic party that takes you back to an age of discovery, when people enjoyed life and rocked like there was no tomorrow.

Re-living the magic of 'the king' is Shaky Russell, accompanied by a top-level band and singers, all wearing costumes which are a true reflection of the phenomenon in every detail.

Shaky recreates it all with stunning authenticity - the voice, the look and the moves. An Elvis award-winning performer, he has previously wowed audiences in Walking In Memphis in 2005 and 2007…so much so that he’s making a comeback (not unlike the King himself).

Put on your Blue Suede Shoes and get ready to Shake Rattle & Roll, because this show promises to rock both young and old in true Elvis spirit!
