Message from ACCA South Africa
ACCA South Africa is committed to promoting and supporting sustainability reporting best practise through their annual ACCA
South Africa Awards for Sustainability Reporting (ACCA awards).
As the Leader on the African continent, ACCA South Africa believes South Africa needs to push the Sustainability Reporting agenda,
recognising that this activity is pivotal to the longevity of organisations and also key to the survival of business on the continent in a highly
competitive and globalised world.
Although reporters are not required to follow the reporting guidelines provided by the Global Reporting Initiative (the GRI G 3 Guidelines),
our judges have consistently concluded that adherence to these guidelines results in more comprehensive and more informative reports.
The number of submission to ACCA Sustainability Awards in South Africa continues to grow. Offered for the sixth year in succession in South Africa,
a record fifty-one entries were received. This represents a 57% increase on our previous record of 34 entries last year.

September 2009
It is with a BIG high five that we thank the NBA for once again selecting Cotlands as one of their charities of choice for their annual visit to South Africa with their project Basketball without Borders. This year the players, coaches and their families took up the challenge and joined the Cotlands Philagogo’s and Cotlands staff at our centre in Soweto to plant vegetables and fruit tress for phase two of our vegetable garden.
The players and their families enjoyed the afternoon by each planting a vegetable patch with the grannies and mommies that work in this project. Some of the comments that we heard were “My Momma would be so proud of me I planted a peach tree” Dwight Howard NBA All Star aka “Superman”.
“We are sowing and working this land to ensure that people will be fed”- Chris Bosch NBA All Star.
The Cotlands children were invited to join the players and potential NBA superstars at a basketball game and fun was had by all especially our Cotlands volunteers who really enjoyed watching these superstars in action. The children enjoyed the day and especially the time spent with the players and their families the wives, mommies and players also enjoyed spending time with the little people at Cotlands helping out with lunch time and we all agreed that their trip was once again a very enjoyable and successful one.
